We finally arrived alive in the capital city after a short (4h) but unbelievable scary journey. Thankfully, our backpacks were still on the rooftop of the mini-van which had started to break due to the insane driving.
Vientiane, which might be the most laid-back capital city in Asia, is quiet and do not have any tall buildings at all. Quite enjoyable even though there were not a lot to do. Quite a few French restaurants can be found around the city but we still sticked to our little street restaurants eating local foods. Lovely meat sticks and our usual fried rice, fried noodle or sticky rice. Maybe we should have made a break with the food as I got a little bored with the local food a week later in South Laos. Indeed, dishes in Laos are not very diversified. However, we soon discovered their potato or pumpking curries which are delicious. One of the highlight of Vientiane is the sunset on the Mekong River, separating Laos with Thailand.
